5 Tips to Staying Healthy this Winter


Sometimes, it gets hard to stay motivated throughout the cold winter months to keep up a healthy regime, whether it is your diet, exercising or anything else! This week, we'd like to share with you some simple ways to help keep you healthy and happy during these chilly months:

1. Stay hydrated - we can't stress this one enough! Try to drink half your body weight in ounces every day. Staying hydrated will help your body functioning at its best.

2. Eat right! Stay away from food that will bog you down like sugary snacks and simple carbs. If you're a big coffee drinker, try substituting green tea for coffee. Green tea is a great source of anti-oxidants and also may help to boost metabolism!

3. Get up and get moving. If it's too cold or wet to exercise outside, join a gym or dust those cobwebs off the elliptical and treadmill and start moving! Take a day and go skiing or snowboarding! We recently saw a suggestion to hide the remote and whenever you want to change channels or adjust the volume, you're forced to get up to do so. Every bit counts!

4. For some people, the days of winter means feeling lethargic, a tendency to oversleep and overeat, a lack of energy, tendency to feeling "blue," and more. Try wearing a bright color such as yellow or red to help boost your energy level and mood. If you're stressed out, try wearing a more calming color like blue or green - you'll be surprised at the effect that color can have on you!

5. Perhaps one of the most important things you can do for yourself is have a positive outlook. In any situation you may find yourself, find something positive to focus on. Problem at work or home? Focus on finding a solution, not expounding on the issue. Feeling like nothing is going right in your day? Make a list of several things that you can be thankful for, even if it's just the air you're breathing or the chair you're sitting on! You may be surprised at your outlook once you've done this.
